A wide variety of pages can be created from a few basic layouts. Variable width layouts change with the width of the browser window. They are easy to produce and print well. However, they can produce long lines of text which can be difficult to read. Fixed width layouts maintain their size regardless of the size of the browser window. The designer has more control over the readability of the page and of placement of elements on the page. Remember that pages look different in different browsers and on different computers. These sample layouts have been designed to work well in both Netscape and Internet Explorer and on both Windows and Macintosh computers.
