Attendance and Coursework Expectations

11/05

Regular attendance means coming to class almost every day.

Absence means you didn’t come to class.

Probation means you have one term to improve attendance or homework.

Coursework means work in class, homework, and tests.

1. The student must come to the first two classes of the term. If he/she doesn’t come and doesn’t call the office or the teacher, he/she may be dropped from the class.

2. If the student misses 20% of a class, he/she may be dropped from the class.

3. The student is expected to complete the coursework as written on the teacher’s syllabus. If he/she has problems completing coursework, he/she should talk to the teacher.

4. If the student is absent, he/she should ask the teacher or a classmate about the coursework missed.

5. If a work or family schedule changes and the student can’t come to class 80% of the time, he/she should talk to the teacher. The teacher may recommend that the student go to the office and fill out a “stop-out” form. Then he/she can come back to class in the future when the schedule is better.

If the student does not follow the attendance or coursework expectations, he/she will be given a warning. If he/she does not meet the expectations the rest of the term, he/she may be placed on probation for the next term. If the student does not meet expectations during the probation term, he/she may be dropped from the ESL program or referred to another English program.
