Library Resources for Nutrition and Health (HE204)
- Library Resources for Nutrition and Health (HE204)
Books are available through the library catalog and through netLibrary. The default search in the catalog is by keyword. You can link search terms together with "AND," for example, "sports AND nutrition." Click on the title of a book to find more information, including its location.
For information on searching in the catalog, see How to use the catalog.
Academic Search Premier, an EBSCOhost database that covers most subjects, indexes articles in periodicals (magazines, newspapers, and journals); it contains the full text of many. Access is available on the Database Page. If using databases from off campus, you will need your My Chemeketa user name and password.
Additional databases that relate specifically to health concerns are available:
- Alt HealthWatch [EBSCOhost]
- Contains information on complementary, holistic, and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. Includes 140 periodicals (27 peer-reviewed), as well as pamphlets, book excerpts, and special reports.
- CINAHL [EBSCOhost]
- Indexes over 1,200 nursing and allied health periodicals. Does not include full text, but links to other databases with full text articles.
- Health Source: Consumer Edition [EBSCOhost]
- Intended for nonprofessional research, this databases indexes just over 170 periodicals. Also includes the full text of twenty reference books and full text of over 1,000 health related pamphlets. Also includes a medical dictionary.
- Health Source Nursing/Academic [EBSCOhost]
- Index to over 550 mostly academic periodicals [over 500 full text] covering a variety of medical fields. Strong coverage of the nursing and allied health field. Also includes a medical dictionary.
- MEDLINE [EBSCOhost]
- The world's largest database of medicine-related abstracts, produced by the National Library of Medicine. Does not include full text, but links to other databases with full text articles.
- ScienceDirect College Edition Health & Life Sciences Collection
- Access to the full text of over 900 journals, relating to health and sciences, broadly interpreted, including environmental science. ScienceDirect is not one of the EBSCOhost databases; it is searchable by keyword, author, title, or journal only.
You may need to combine multiple search terms to find articles on your topic. Checking off "Chemeketa Periodicals" and "Full text" is helpful, too. We have combined "carbohydrates" on the first search line with the words "exercise, physical fitness" on the second line. Notice that the words to be combined with our main term are separated by the word, "OR."

Tip: When using keywords, try truncating: theor* finds theory, theories, theoretical, etc. (* is the truncation character for EBSCOhost).
If you find an article that meets your needs, look at its description for additional terms you can use to search.
